The collage work, Inside and Outside the Castle, consists of twenty pieces exploring imagined interiors and exteriors of castles and the social dynamics and interpersonal relationships associated with them. Sewing papers serve as bases for collages. Lines above the sewing papers and spaces divided by the lines represent paths, fences, and boundaries. The pathways artists take to approach castles, the fences that isolate the public and enclose the castle owners, and the invisible boundaries separating different social statuses. I use a lot of pictures from magazines and children's books as narrative symbols to guide thinking and stimulate imagination. The opposition and interdependence between ordinary people and the powerful (such as lords and dignitaries) become apparent through gestures and arrow patterns. Collage, its destructive/interventional nature, is a powerful means of expressing this oscillating relationship.
